Finance and Administration Section Sponsored Session: Financial & Administrative Data: Going for the Gold

Description: This session will focus on the ASPPH annual data collection data elements used for finance and administration of schools and programs of public health, such as data on admissions, students, graduates; faculty and salaries; and/or finances. Following an overview and demonstration of ASPPH Data Center analytics, including new tools My Quick Stats and My Peer Identifier, panelists from different institution types will discuss the ASPPH data elements used most often in their work, focusing on data definition interpretations, data collection and warehousing strategies, and data uses for reporting, benchmarking, or decision-making. This session is open to all attendees.

• Demonstration of Data Center Member Portal data reporting and analytics resources

• Review of the data elements collected by ASPPH and CEPH

• Panel Discussion:

• Data elements you use and where there is alignment and potential discrepancy in data definitions across institutions

• How financial data, and other pertinent F&A data, are collected and warehoused at different institutions

• Uses of the ASPPH data reports and online analytics for reporting, benchmarking, or decision-making at different institutions

Panelists include section members Vanessa Greer from the University of Maryland, Dean Surbey from Emory University, and Marcia Thomas from New York University. From ASPPH, Christine Plepys and Emily Burke will demonstrate the tools and data available on the Data Center Member Portal.
