TAL Tuesday Awards Luncheon:
Presentation of the ASPPH Special Recognition Award and the ASPPH Welch-Rose Award

Description: Two major ASPPH Awards will be presented during this special luncheon event:
  • The 2016 ASPPH Special Recognition Award will be presented to former Senator Tom Harkin.  During a lengthy Senate career, Senator Harkin was chair of the Senate Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee and the Senate Health, Labor, Education and Pensions Committee.  Throughout his career, Senator Harkin championed public health and prevention research.  Senator Harkin will accept the award throgh a video link.
  • The 2016 ASPPH Welch-Rose Award for Distinguished Service to Academic Public Health will be presented to Dr. Julio Frenk, President of the University of Miami.  The Welch-Rose award is presented annually to an individual for extraordinary contributions to the academic public health community. The Award recognizes the highest standards in academic public health and honors individuals who have made a lasting impact on academic public health.
