A requirement of graduation, the student practicum provides opportunities for applied learning, interdisciplinary content, and integration of concepts and skills learned in the classroom. However, limited research has been conducted on the student practicum within governmental public health agencies. The CDC-funded Governmental Public Health Student Practicum Project sought to determine where schools and programs of public health are placing students for practicum experiences, how students are contributing to the work of health departments, and how schools and programs of public health can partner and collaborate with governmental public health agencies to properly train the future public health workforce and promote professions in governmental public health. Speakers will present the results of this Project and engage attendees in discussion of additional methods to foster existing collaborations and to create new and meaningful partnerships with governmental public health agencies.
