The Gillings School of Global Public Health (SPH) will launch a new track, at the master’s level (MPH) within the Public Health Leadership Program (PHLP) starting this summer (2015) called the Global Online MPH (GO MPH). This track is different from our current MPH tracks in that it is offered completely online, with concentration areas relevant to public health issues that are thematic and interdisciplinary (e.g. implementation science, water and population health) targeted at both global and domestic clinicians (especially, but not exclusively), and delivered with modern technology, using best 21st century education practices. We are creating an integrated core public health course (s) that meets the new Association for Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) content areas.

The development and implementation of these courses will serve as a pilot for our efforts in revamping the residential MPH program.  Our first task was to create a support team, hire a coordinator of curriculum and pedagogy, and work with a task force of faculty from the various departments.  The task force helped in assigning levels of competency to the ASSPH MPH content areas.  We have now moved into the development of the content for each course with plans for comprehensive evaluation of the competencies attained by the students in this track.  For the residential program, a planning committee has been formed and Town Hall meetings are being held to decide on a model for the School for 2016-17.
