Monday, March 21, 2016: 10:15 AM-11:45 AM
Salon 6 (Crystal Gateway Marriott)
Description: Two of the most important and timely questions facing public health educators today are how do we best prepare our graduates to work in an increasingly interprofessional world and what is the most effective role that our graduates can play in promoting and improving population health?  This session will present three leading experts on interprofessional opportunities for public health practitioners and educators to advance population health from three vital interrelated perspectives: practice, education, and professionalism.  The speakers will:
  • Address the importance and challenges of engagement with the health delivery system and other sectors (practice)
  • Discuss how to prepare public health learners to collaborate in interprofessional work (education)
  • Explore the language, values, and legal underpinnings of the professions working to improve population health (professionalism).

The speakers, reflecting their own expertise, and that of interprofessional efforts that they have chaired or participated in, will comment on strategies for transforming practice, education, and professional dispositions to enhance effective interprofessional collaboration in advancing the public’s health.
