Salon K (Crystal Gateway Marriott)
Description: Many of the innovations advanced by the Affordable Care Act were intended to promote a learning health system, defined by the Institute of Medicine as a "healthcare system designed to generate and apply the best evidence for the collaborative healthcare choices of each patient and provider; to drive the process of discovery as a natural outgrowth of patient care; and to ensure innovation, quality, safety, and value in health care."  This session will discuss various programs and systems being developed to facilitate such a system and the role academic public health is playing in their development and adoption.  The speakers will also discuss how the maturity of these programs and systems will impact the practice, research, and education missions of academic public health.
